Another feature to increase the protection against forgery
The EU did the next important step against counterfeit products. In part of the Directive 2011/62/EU further steps for increase the protection against forgery were defined. All drugs and prescription medicines will fit a safety feature, so the pharmacy can check the authenticity.
In first step the stakeholders agreed to provide each packet with a unique product and the assigned serial number over the world. For automation data must be applied in a standardized, machine-readable form on the pack.
The pharma central number (PCN) will be expanded to the Pharmacy Product Number (PPN) to ensure the unique product identification beyond Germany. With the PPN and the original data of pharmaceutical company the medicine can be verified. The IFA ensures the evidence of the PPN and delivers the market partner with the information and Supports.
The labeling of the sales package includes the following data elements
• Product number
• Batch number
• Expiration date
• Serial number (optional)
